You can therefore estimate your credit limit yourself, even before submitting an application.

The 36-Month Rule

The article Section 28, paragraph 4 of the LCC Set out the following principle: the review is based on a 36-month credit amortization, even when the contract provides for a longer duration.

💡 Theoretical maximum amount = monthly available quota × 36

This rule explains a common paradox. Spreading your loan over 84 months reduces your monthly payment, but does not increase the amount you are eligible for. The maximum loan amount remains fixed at three years.

Second point often ignored: ongoing loans are factored into the calculation. A car lease Or a credit card with an open balance directly reduces your capacity.

For amounts over 80,000 francs, this 36-month rule no longer applies. The lender then assesses your ability to repay based on its own criteria, generally over the actual term of the loan. This makes it possible to secure much higher loan amounts, up to 400,000 francs.

How is your disposable portion calculated

The lender starts from your net income, then deducts your non-compressible expenses. It applies the non-seizability standards of debt enforcement law, supplemented by Art. 28 para. 3 CCL. Most institutions require 12 to 18 months of residency and a permit whose validity covers the duration of the loan. Renew your residence permit before submitting your application.

What is the maximum interest rate allowed in 2026?

Since the 1ster January 2026, the annual percentage rate The total amount may not exceed 10 % for a cash loan and 12 % for an overdraft. These limits apply only to loans subject to the LCC.

Do we need to account for how the funds are used?

No. The personal loan is an unsecured loan. You do not need to provide any proof of use, unlike with a car loan or a mortgage.

Can a self-employed person file a Form credit in switzerland?

Yes, generally after two years of activity. Prepare your last two or three balance sheets as well as your latest taxation decision. The case requires more arguments than an employee file.

Can you cancel a loan after signing?

Yes, if the agreement falls under the Consumer Credit Act. You then have fourteen days to revoke it in writing, without giving a reason or incurring a penalty (Art. 16 CCF). Credit outside the scope of the Consumer Credit Act does not benefit from this right of revocation.

Does a loan appear on the debt collection register?

No. A loan that is regularly repaid appears in the ZEK and, if it falls under the CCA, in the IKO. Never in the registry of lawsuits. Only a default in payment followed by legal proceedings would appear there.

Review your situation

Remember three things. Your eligibility depends first on your status and professional seniority, including if you are a cross-border worker. Your amount then depends on your available quota, and exceeding 80,000 francs changes the applicable regime. Finally, your file deserves a single, well-targeted application rather than five attempts that damage your profile.

At Lica, we analyze your situation for free before any submission.
